ENWRAPPED IN SHEER TRANSLUCENT VEIL

Enwrapped in sheer translucent veil,
I feel its weight upon my breast;
And through the veil the air I assail,
My levelled spear held crosswise prest.
Yet air—the victim—breaks me not,
It coils and swells about my frame;
My urge to strike him was too hot,
By this same urge I overcame.
Entangled in the fabric clear,
I fell to earth as strength grew pale;
I learned the torments, dread severe,
Its bondman thenceforth I became.
